When downloading the core-client from Berkeley, and running the selfextracting shell-script, I do not seem to get the client / manager to run correctly. What can I do?

The default installer from Berkeley only allows for a per user install on linux. It is not hard to change the installation into a system wide, automatically start at boot and run under a \'BOINC\' user at all, but there is an easier way:

download and run the installer from http://boinc.gorlaeus.net/download/boinc_5.3.1_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh
as root.

This installer takes care of some linux/X11 stuff and also supplies you a newer client version. Here some of the X11 & linux issues resolved:

- it will create a user BOINC with no login shell and home directory /opt/BOINC in which the client will be run as user BOINC.
- it will create the correct /etc/init.d/boinc script (Fedora and SuSe have been tested) to automatically restart the client on the background when rebooting.
- it will offer the run_client and run_manager scripts that automatically su to the BOINC user and exchange the X11 cookies to get access to the currently running user display.

With this installer any user can manage the client yet the client runs in a \'sandbox\' in the background.
