There was a typo in a workunit template we did not find in the test phase (missed an extra 0); it has been corrected; the deadline is now increased and the estimated FLOPS too. Sorry about that. If you want you can drop / abort the workunits; MarkW can easily reschedule them in a few seconds...

More information on the WU can be found at forum_thread.php?id=420

m.

The time needed to complete a WU has suddenly increased. Trajtou's used to be 40 minutes max on my PC and the classics around 1h40. Now all trajtou's (non-phonons) are 2h40, and the classics 9h17????

The reason for this is most likely that in the phonon batch with the template error the estimated flops were incorrect. The units took much longer to finish than estimated. Boinc compensates for that by means of a multiplication factor which is applied to the next work units of the same project. As the new units now have a more accurate estimation, the multiplication factor will gradually decrease again. You can also decrease the factor manually yourself in one of the xml files, but I can't remember where and what. Hey, it's 3am here ;)

Thanks. It may be tight, but my machine will probably be able to finish them in time.

Boinc is running in panic mode here for the moment. I got 13 LGI_trajtou_phonon_queue tasks lined up. These have an ultra short 2 day deadline. 10 of the tasks are currently started (on a quad core), each in turn running in high priority to get finished by tomorrow. 2 day deadline is pretty tight. Can't this be relaxed?

Team BOINC.BE has passed the 15M mark! Congratulations!

Well done, team! Next stop 20M... as first team of course.

Keep the work coming, Mark. We will keep on crunching it.

Belgium, a small country with a great team: BOINC.BE

Today BOINC.BE entered the top 20 of all projects combined. A remarkable achievement for a team from a relatively small country like Belgium. With our recent average of over 600K/day we rank even higher, at position 16. This means that we can rise even further.

As a national team we only let 5 countries before us: the US, Germany, Canada, Australia and the Czech Republic. But we want to do better. We reach the vast majority of crunchers in the north of our country. We would like to launch a special appeal to our friends in the south to join our effort. Help us build a top team where all Belgians feel at home in a friendly, multilingual team and forum.

Today I have lost a lot of time trying to write a text that does not get refused by the akismet.net anti-spam system. This was a very frustrating experience. Please take into account that we are volunteers trying to help out in our spare time. If spam is no real problem here, then I suggest to disable the anti-spam system, and make our participation as pleasant an experience as possible.

This thread may be closed or even removed, since the matter got solved quickly.

Thanks for turning off akismet, Mark ;)

Taken that the "looping" problem might be related to Boinc or Boinc version, that still leaves the "lately reading sequential unformatted external IO" issue. Or could that have the same cause?

Any idea about the failure rate, except for missing libraries of course? Am I the only one having these problems?

Whatever I try to post as reply here gets marked as spam by the akismet.net anti-spam system. I have tried various edits of my text, but in vain. I give up. I don't have time for this. I will try PM my reply to you as a lost possibility, Mark.

EDIT: PM does not work either. So whatever I try to write on this subject is marked as spam...

EDIT 2: Last attempt, in vague terms. Maybe that doesn't get seen as spam. I will try a newer Boinc version. But the other problem I get with the sequential IO is no doubt not related to the Boinc version.

Now I'm confused... in the other thread you mention the executable doesn't even start ?! Yet here you encouter the 'weird trajectories' again which imply that the executable is running ?! Is this a 32 bit box ?

m.

See other thread. After I installed the necessary library, the trajtou do start and give me the problems I mentioned.
